Return to the Moon isn’t “viable”

September 9, 2009

So says a report from a White House panel of independent experts.

the moon

I used to be excited about the times we live in, but man, if there isn’t a conspiracy to kill all of my childhood dreams then I don’t know what else is going on.

Yes, NASA stinks and yes, the country is broke. But dog-gone-it Barack, I want to go back to the Moon! Make it happen! YES WE CAN? …

If America cannot achieve the goals set for space exploration, even after international and commercial partners pitch in, “it should accept the disappointment of setting lesser goals,” the report said.

Wow. I’m so inspired.

The report said that the space agency appeared to be “on an unsustainable trajectory,” pursuing goals that did not match the allocated resources.

Can we get this panel to look at Health Care?

“There’s a lot of places in the neighborhood,” Crawley said. “In fact, going to the moon is more difficult than going to a near-Earth object.”

Who really wants to go to an asteroid when you’ve got the Moon?

I don’t know, but the space program will never work when politics is involved, so we must ask, “When is Burt Rutan going to get us back to the moon?”
