A New Pet

October 26, 2009

I took the oldest son out shopping with me on Saturday to go get some pasture grass seed (we bought a few acres of farm field next door). He wanted to go to Wal-mart at first to maybe get some new Legos, but then he mentioned that his friend had a hamster and he wanted one too. So I told him he could get one if he had enough money.

So after we ran around town for a while and stopped at Pizza Hut for lunch, we headed over to the Pet Shoppe to check out the hamsters.

We came away with one of these…

A Russian Dwarf Hamster (glorified mouse)

Plus close to $40 in accessories. The picture isn’t his hamster but it looks a lot like him.
Lets hope he never escapes or my wife would have a heart attack..

Congrats on the new pet. 🙂

Let me tell you though, dwarf hamsters can become very territorial, so if your son gets into it’s cage to try to pick it up, there’s a good chance it’ll bite him. Dwarfs are small and cute, but not as cuddly and friendly as syrians (the bigger and fluffy looking hamsters you may have seen at the petstore). However, you never know, not all dwarfs are like that. 🙂

I have noticed that he’s a little jumpy at first. I’ve told the boys to go slow and pet him a couple of times before picking him up, especially after waking him. So far, no bites. He did nibble on my palm a little yesterday though.
