Not saying I agree that peak oil is here yet, but if it is, I think our civilization will survive.* It might hit a rough patch, but we’re not all going to die.
Here is a good article on why we shouldn’t be too concerned: Peak Everything?
Stanford University economist Paul Romer has observed, “Every generation has perceived the limits to growth that finite resources and undesirable side effects would pose if no new recipes or ideas were discovered. And every generation has underestimated the potential for finding new recipes and ideas. We consistently fail to grasp how many ideas remain to be discovered. The difficulty is the same one we have with compounding: possibilities do not merely add up; they multiply.” The above examples show that while the production of physical supplies of resources may peak, there is no sign that human creativity is about to peak.
You should still be concerned about preparing for disasters and such, but be level-headed.

These crazy orange lady bugs invade through every opening in your home!
Asian Lady Beetle on my ceiling
These little critters drive me crazy.
Yesterday there wasn’t a trace of them, today I come home and there are already thousands of dead ones on the front porch.
I remember when there used to be RED lady bugs. These orange ones were apparently imported by some dopes in Washington to help with aphids.
And they bite!
Oops, another Obama administration official sticks his foot in his mouth… again.
“The American public…just like your teenage kids, aren’t acting in a way that they should act,” Dr. Chu said. “The American public has to really understand in their core how important this issue is.”
The issue being Global
Warming Climate Change and energy efficiency.
It seems that we can’t go a week without one of these people saying something really dumb. The American public are a bunch of conservative rubes that need to be taught how to live. Excuse me, Mr. Chu, but I can decide what is right for my self and my family. You stay out of it. If I want to by a Hummer, which I don’t, then fine its my choice. I choose not to because its a waste of money. So is all this global warming nonsense.
The administration aims to teach them—literally. The Environmental Protection Agency is focusing on real children. Partnering with the Parent Teacher Organization, the agency earlier this month launched a cross-country tour of 6,000 schools to teach students about climate change and energy efficiency.
If there is anything that ticks me off more than government waste, its government indoctrinating my kids! STOP IT! Didn’t you learn from the President’s speech to school kids last week? People hate this.
But its your political career… Go ahead and destroy it.
